SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 New Features Highlights

Posted by Gerry Poe

SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 features and highlights for your review.  This overview will help you optimize your SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 software.  If you have not yet updated to 6.1, these tips and tricks may motivate you to do so today.

 SYSPRO Enterprise Search

There was a requirement for users to have the ability to search the SYSPRO database for a specific phrase. The search functionality allows the user to search all configured tables and return a result set (similar to a Google-style search). Once the result set is returned, all key fields (e.g. stock codes, customers and suppliers) are hyperlinked, allowing the user to perform various tasks like running the relevant Query, Setup, or Browse programs.

Tax field size

In Quebec, Canada, from January 2013, there is a new legal requirement for tax rates to allow for three decimal places. In SYSPRO 6.1 SP1, you can specify the number of decimal places to use for tax rates. The system defaults to two decimal places, but you can define up to three decimal places.

This field size change necessitates a small conversion for all files that use tax rates. The changes for tax rates have been applied to all relevant programs except where used in legacy style reports. The only reports that support the use of three decimal places are SRS reports. However, where the tax rate is printed on a document, the use of three decimal places is supported on Standard, Word and SRS documents.

SYSPRO Communication Service

SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 enables the SYSPRO Communication Service to be installed for improved client-server connectivity. Although the technology was released in March in SYSPRO 6.1, the installation was only available on request, but is now available for general use with the SP1 DVD.

The advantages of using SYSPRO Communication Services include:

  • You only require a single SYSPRO service on your application server. Previously, two services were required.
  • You can define the TCP IP port used to communicate between client and server. Previously, this capability was very limited.
  • Improved network traffic optimization - including reduced network traffic and reduced chattiness. Previous optimization was reasonable in reducing traffic, but did not reduce chattiness.
  • Improved ability to auto-detect and repair runaway processes on the server. Previously, this required manual review and kill.

Updated SYSPRO Analytics

SYSPRO Analytics has been updated to provide a new GL cube, for better analysis of financial data.

SYSPRO Factory Scheduling (Preactor 11.2)

SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 ships with support for the latest version of Preactor - 11.2 - which is a SQL-based product which can be run in a 64-bit environment. Preactor 11.2 no longer requires a hardware license. Customers wishing to migrate to this version of Preactor must be aware of a data conversion and the requirement to re-run the MRP Calculation. In addition (as it is a SQL-based product) a minimum requirement of SQL Server Express must be installed in order to run Preactor 11.2.

New user interfaces

The AP Invoice Contra functionality has been split from the AP Invoice Posting program, and will appear separately on the menu as APSPCI.

Currently schedules are being booked for SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 upgrade. Please let us know how we may help you get the latest SP1 benefits for your company. Do you need SYSPRO 6.1 SP1 DVD media for download, help installing, or learning about new enhancements?
